About me

Meet Jen, the creative mind behind Dreaded Designs, specialising in eerie art and horror-inspired tutorials.

Hi there! I’m Jen – horror enthusiast, self-taught artist, and fellow explorer of the wonderfully macabre. If you’re here, you probably enjoy eerie creatures, creepy landscapes, and things that go bump (or squeak) in the night.

But here’s the twist: I’m not coming at you as some flawless professional with a perfect portfolio. I’m more of an intermediate artist, shaking off the rust after a long break. Instead of pretending I’ve got all the answers, I’m figuring it out alongside you – messy sketches, happy accidents, and all.

Why I started this blog

Some days my head feels like a haunted house, but art is the light I switch on to remind myself the shadows can’t win. Through every challenge, art has been my safe place – my escape and my strength. Dreaded Designs grew from that, becoming my way of turning creativity (and a healthy dose of horror obsession) into something meaningful.”

I built this space to be approachable and real – a place where spooky art doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful. Whether you’re sketching your first creepy creature or summoning the confidence to tackle bigger projects, I want this blog to feel like a safe (but haunted) corner of the internet where you can learn, experiment, and have a few laughs along the way.

A few fun facts about me

  • Horror Film Enthusiast: My favourites span timeless classics like Chucky and Halloween, and modern hits like Saw and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. If it delivers gore and suspense, consider me hooked.
  • Nature Lover: When I’m not sketching monsters, I’m probably outside appreciating insects, dinosaurs (fossilised ones, obviously), and all kinds of animals.
  • Mental Health Advocate: My own experiences with mental health have taught me resilience, and I’m passionate about sharing that strength with others through art.

Let’s create something horrifyingly beautiful together.

So here’s the deal: I’ll share tutorials, tips, and experiments, but I’m also figuring things out as I go. Think of me as your horror-art study buddy; I’ll bring the cursed sketchbook if you bring the pencils.

Some pages on the blog are already live, others are still “coming soon” (they have flickering haunted signs to prove it). That’s part of the journey – and I kind of like it that way. It’s like peeking into dark rooms of a haunted house: you know they’ll be opened eventually, but the suspense is half the fun.

My creature designs are 20% imagination and 80% what I look like when someone knocks on the door unexpectedly.

Thank you for stopping by!
Stay spooky, keep sketching, and remember: art is much cheaper than therapy… and less messy than exorcisms.
