Welcome to Dreaded Designs – Learn to Draw Horror Art
Dreaded Designs is a place to learn, practise and develop your horror drawing skills, whether you’re picking up a pencil for the first time or returning to drawing after a long break.
I’m Jen, a horror-art enthusiast who’s still learning and developing my own skills too. I created Dreaded Designs to share clear, approachable drawing guides without the pressure to get everything perfect.
You’ll find tutorials covering drawing fundamentals, shading, lighting, anatomy, materials, horror characters and creative techniques, with plenty of darker inspiration along the way.
Start with the basics, build your skills gradually, and use what you learn to bring your own dark ideas to life.
New to Horror Art? Start Here
If you’re not sure where to begin, you don’t need to learn everything at once. Start with a few basic drawing skills and build from there.
My Getting Started with Horror Art guide takes you through the foundations in a simple order, from choosing your first drawing supplies and working with basic shapes to understanding character guidelines and the basics of shading.
It’s designed to give you a clear starting point and a path to follow, so you can concentrate on building your skills instead of wondering what you should learn next.
You can work through the guide in order or simply jump to the sections you need most. There’s no rush to master everything before moving forward – the aim is to build a foundation you can keep returning to as your drawings develop.
Explore Dreaded Designs
Dreaded Designs goes beyond individual drawing tutorials. The site explores the techniques, ideas and darker influences that go into creating horror art, whether you’re working on a simple sketch or developing something entirely your own.
You’ll find guides covering the basics of drawing horror art, perspective, shading, character construction and traditional drawing techniques, alongside inspiration from horror artists, folklore and mythology, with plenty more areas of horror art to explore as the site continues to grow.
You don’t have to follow one particular path through the site. Explore whatever catches your interest, try something new, and come back to the fundamentals whenever you need them. Horror art gives you plenty of room to experiment, and that’s a large part of what Dreaded Designs is here to encourage.
