Welcome to the FAQ for Dreaded Designs! You will find answers here to the most common questions about my blog, tutorials, and creative content. If your question isn’t listed here, feel free to reach out via the contact page.
1. what is dreaded designs all about?
Dreaded Designs is a haunted sketchbook brought to life – part tutorial hub, part spooky inspiration zone, and part community hangout. It’s a creative space where dark ideas crawl off the page (sometimes elegantly, sometimes like they tripped over their own shoelaces).
Here’s the twist: I’m not a professional art expert. I’m still learning and experimenting right alongside my readers. This means the blog is approachable, encouraging, and just a little messy (in the best way). If you love horror, creepy art, or just want to improve your drawing skills without the pressure of perfection, you’re in the right place.
2. Who is behind dreaded designs?
That would be me – Jen! I’m a horror enthusiast, intermediate artist, and spooky soul who decided to share my love of creepy creations while rebuilding my own confidence. Think of me as your horror-art study buddy – because monsters are less scary when you draw them together.
3. What kind of tutorials do you offer?
My tutorials focus on horror-inspired art, mainly using graphite, carbon pencils, and charcoal. You’ll find guides on blending, shading, textures, lighting, and creating eerie details that bring creepy characters and scenes to life.
Since I’m learning too, tutorials are designed to be clear, step-by-step, and approachable. They’ll grow in complexity over time – so we’ll tackle scarier, more advanced monsters together as our skills sharpen.
4. Do I NEED to be a professional artist to follow the tutorials?
Not at all. You don’t need to be a pro – I’m not either. Dreaded Designs is for everyone, whether you’re a beginner just picking up a pencil or someone with experience looking for spooky inspiration. The tutorials are paced so you can learn with me at your own speed.
5. Do you offer tutorials on clay sculpting?
Clay sculpting tutorials are something I plan to add in the future, focusing on horror-inspired creatures, eerie textures, and spooky little figures. I’ll be covering different types of clay, like air-dry, polymer, and foam clay, once the sculpting section launches.
For now, the blog is focused on drawing tutorials – but keep an eye out. The monsters will eventually get a 3D upgrade (don’t worry, they’re house-trained… mostly).
6. Can I share my artwork inspired by your tutorials?
Yes, please! I’d love to see your creations. Tag me on social media so I can admire your spooky sketches and share them with the community (Instagram, Facebook). Let’s build a spooky art family together!
7. How often do you post new content?
I aim to post tutorials, inspiration pieces, or blog updates at least once a week. The best way to stay updated is by subscribing to the newsletter – that way, spooky updates will find you first.
8. Do you sell your artwork or offer commissions?
Currently, Dreaded Designs focuses on tutorials and free content. However, I may open a shop or offer commissions in the future. Keep an eye on the blog for updates!
9. How can I support dreaded designs?
Your support means the world to me. Here are a few ways you can help:
- Share the blog with other art lovers or horror fans.
- Subscribe to the newsletter to stay updated on new tutorials and content.
- Leave comments or feedback on posts (it helps keep the community engaged).
- Shop through affiliate links – it doesn’t cost you extra, but it helps support the blog and allows me to keep making free spooky content.
10. What if I have a specific question or request for a tutorial?
I’d love to hear your ideas! Drop me a message via the contact page or leave a comment on the blog. Your suggestion could inspire the next tutorial.
11. Can I use your art or tutorials in my own projects?
You’re welcome to use my tutorials to create your own horror art. If you plan to sell or distribute a piece based on my tutorial, please reach out for permission first. Sharing is great, but credit is creepily important.
12. I’m new to horror art. Where should I start?
A great place to start is with my Beginner-Friendly Drawing Tutorials, think eerie eyes or creepy hands. They’ll help you build confidence before tackling full creatures. Since I’m still learning too, these tutorials are designed to be simple and fun – the kind of creepy practice you can actually enjoy.
13. Do I need any specific materials or tools to follow your tutorials?
Not really. Most tutorials use affordable tools like graphite pencils, coloured pencils, or charcoal. I’ll include supply suggestions, but you can adapt with whatever you already have. The spooky magic comes from creativity, not expensive brands.
14. Do you use AI-generated images on Dreaded Designs?
Yes, but only for non-tutorial visuals such as backgrounds or concept fillers. They save time and add atmosphere. Every tutorial, step-by-step guide, and drawing demonstration is hand-drawn by me. When you’re learning here, you’re learning real art – straight from my sketchbook, not a machine.
